It’s About Coming Home to Yourself

Sometimes, we lose touch with who we are at our core. If you’ve been feeling a little lost, drained, or disconnected from yourself, take a deep breath. This is your invitation to slow down and realign with the person you’ve always been underneath all the noise.
Here are six simple but powerful ways to reconnect with yourself and feel whole again.
1. Get to Know the Quiet Version of You
We spend so much time filling our days with tasks, conversations, and distractions that we forget what silence sounds like. But the quieter life gets, the more we hear ourselves.
Try Freewriting:
Lately I’ve been using freewriting as a way to connect with my innermost unfiltered thoughts and feelings. I put on my meditation music, light a candle, turn down the lights and write! Write about how you feel, what you’re thinking about – whatever comes to you. Don’t worry about if it’s readable or makes sense to a reader, just write to have the free stream of consciousness. You don’t need to chase clarity. It comes when you create space for it.
2. Shift from Self-Improvement to Self-Remembrance
We’re always told to “fix” ourselves—be more productive, look a certain way, reach the next milestone. But what if you’re not broken? What if you don’t need fixing, just remembering?
Instead of asking: “How can I improve myself?”
Try asking: “How can I take care of myself today?”
It’s my belief that self-improvement really isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about uncovering and rediscovering who you’ve always been.
3. Romanticize the Little Things
Sometimes, life feels dull not because we’re doing the wrong things, but because we’re not fully present for them. One of the easiest ways to feel more like yourself again is to find magic in the mundane.
Ways to make life feel more beautiful:
- Light a candle or use essential oils while you work to create an inviting atmosphere.
- Play beautiful music that inspires and lifts your up.
- When you’re preparing healthy meals for yourself, remind yourself you’re nourishing your body and you’re taking the time out of your day to do it! That alone is worth celebrating.
Joy is rarely in the big milestones—it’s in the little moments you choose to notice.
4. Let Yourself Like What You Like
When did we start feeling guilty for the things that make us happy? If you love something—whether it’s a cheesy rom-com, a niche hobby, or a quirky outfit choice—own it.
Give yourself permission to:
- Wear the outfit that makes you feel good, even if it’s “too much” for a regular Tuesday.
- Listen to music that makes your heart happy, not what’s trending.
- Embrace hobbies that bring you joy, even if they’re not “productive.”
You are allowed to enjoy life, simply because you exist.
5. Let Go of the Idea That You Have to Be “On” All the Time
We live in a world that rewards hustle, output, and performance. But you are not a machine. You don’t exist just to be useful to others. You are allowed to rest.
If you’ve been feeling disconnected from yourself, ask:
- Am I tired, or am I overstimulated?
- Am I resting, or am I just numbing out?
- What would “recharging” look like for me right now?
Maybe it’s a nap, a break from social media, or an entire weekend of doing nothing. Whatever it is, honor your need for stillness without guilt.
6. Find the People Who Feel Like Home
You are not meant to do life alone. The right people don’t just make you feel loved—they make you feel like yourself.
- Who do you feel safe around?
- Who supports you without making you feel like you have to perform?
- Who brings out the version of you that you actually love?
If you don’t have those people yet, that’s okay. Keep showing up as yourself, and eventually, you’ll find them.
You’re the main character of your life
You don’t have to wait for a big life change to start feeling like “you” again. Sometimes, it’s the small shifts—the quiet moments, the permission to be yourself, the little joys—that bring you back home.
So today, let’s start small. What’s one tiny thing you can do to reconnect with yourself? Pick one and try it—because you deserve to feel like the most you version of yourself again.
If this resonated with you, please share it with someone who might need to hear it too!
